The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado touchdown near Elk Mound, WI just before 8 PM. Damage to homes, trailer homes, and other buildings was reported.
Just to the northeast, in Wheaton, damage was also reported. The Chippewa County Sheriff asked people to avoid the area today due to lots of debris and downed power lines.
Video posted to social media reportedly showed semi trailers flipped on Highway 29 just after the tornado went through the Elk Mound area.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
The NWS will have a survey crew out today to determine the strength of yesterday’s tornado. It is still unclear if the same tornado hit Elk Mound and Wheaton, or if there were multiple tornadoes.
